FAQ

How do I use my calling card?

The calling card contains the 0800 access phone number (e.g. 0800 1234567) and your PIN (you can just copy these two numbers on a piece of paper if you like or even memorize them).

1. Call the 0800-… access number.

2. Enter your PIN

3. After listening to your account balance dial the number you want

4. Start talking If you want to make another call once you have finished the previous one, do not hang up the receiver but just type "*" or "###" on the dial pad (dependent on the calling card). Then you can dial a new number. Please note: Do not try to insert a calling card into the slot for microchip cards of a public telephone, it won't work

Do any charges occur if the phone is busy or nobody picks it up?

No. Although that is not necessarily the case with all the calling cards on the market, callfix only sells cards that do not charge if no connection was established. If the phone is busy or nobody picks it up, it doesn't cost anything.

How do I know the balance of my calling card account?

After typing the 0800 access number and entering your PIN you will hear your balance over the phone.

How do I know how much time I have left to call?

After dialling your required number the telephone system tells you how much time you can speak if you want to use up the remaining balance on the calling card (the time is dependent on the destination number). One minute before the balance on your calling card reaches its limit you will hear a short beep tone reminding you that your time is nearly up.

Do I have to use up the balance of my card with the first call?

No. You can talk as briefly as you want. You will only be charged according to the connection time. If your card says "120/60" it means that you are charged 120 seconds (2 minutes) for the first minute (this is called "ground tax") and for every following minute at 60 second-intervals.

Do I have to dial both numbers (0800 access number and PIN) every time I want to call a different destination?

If you want to make another call once you have finished the previous one, do not hang up the receiver but just type "*" or "###" on the dial pad (dependent on the calling card). Then you can dial a new number without having to restart the whole procedure from the beginning.

It doesn't work. What's the problem?

There are three main reasons why a calling card might not work. Fortunately all three are rare.

1. The use of calling cards requires that the telephone you are calling from supports "touch tone dialing". If a telephone uses "touch tone dialing" you hear beep tones every time you press a key on the dial pad. There are still a few telephones with the older "pulse dialing" in which case you hear a clicking noise of variable length every time you press a key. Some phones can be switched to "touch tone dialing" by pressing the key sequence: arrow, star, arrow. If that does not work, try using a different telephone. If that is not an option you can also use a so-called "DTMF sender", a little device that has a dial pad which produces the signals normally sent by a "touch tone" telephone. A device like that costs around € 5.

2. Some telephone systems (very few public phones or some hotels) block the access to free 0800 services. In that case you cannot use your calling card on that phone. Your have to use a different telephone.

3. Sometimes a calling card provider's telephone system is overloaded with calls. If you hear a busy signal after typing the 0800 access number, you have to try it later.

How can I avoid having to dial the access number and PIN every time I use the calling card?

All modern telephones can store numbers in their memory.

In order to store the calling card in a telephone, you have to program both numbers. Since the PIN can only be sent a couple of seconds after the telephone has dialed the 0800 access number the telephone has to be instructed to wait 3 seconds between dialing the 0800 access number and the PIN. For that purpose you can use the so-called "pause symbol". The "pause symbol" varies among telephone manufactures. For Siemens cell phones you can use one (or more) "+++" (entered by keeping the "0" key pressed for a longer period). For Nokia phones you can use a "p" (entered by pressing the "*" key fast three times in a row).

Home phones usually have the same feature. Please consult your owner's manual to find the appropriate way to enter the "pause" signal.

Does my calling card work even if my phone provider is HanseNet, Versatel, Berlikomm, Arcor, M-net, NetCologne or ISIS?

Yes, even if the call-by-call feature is blocked by the provider. The 0800 access number will work and is free of charge.

Can I use my calling card to call from a hotel or a hospital?

Yes, if the telephone supports so-called "touch tone dialing" or you own a so-called "DTMF sender", a little device that has a dial pad which produces the signals normally sent by a "touch tone" telephone. A device like that costs around € 5.

If I stay in a hotel, can they charge a fee if I use my calling card?

No, all calls to a 0800 number are free of charge.

Can I use a calling card from a cell phone?

Yes, although there is an additional charge per minute. Depending on the provider the additional charge is between 15 and 30 Cents per minute. To review the exact charges please consult the table listing all calling cards. Some prividers uses the call back method when your call originates from a cell phone.

What if delivery is late?

In the rare case that this occurs, we will ask you for your bank details. You can then decide if you want us to send your money back immediately or whether you want to wait for the quoted delivery date.

What if I do not receive an e-mail after three days?

In that case there is most likely a problem with your e-mail address (e-mail delivery problems with your internet provider, etc.). If that happens to you please send an e-mail to eilt@callfix.de and give again all the details of your order: your name, the order date, and the original e-mail address. If you do not receive a reply by the next day, please contact us via phone.

What is "touch tone dialing"?

If a telephone uses "touch tone dialing" you hear beep tones every time you press a key on the dial pad. A few telephones still have only "pulse dialing" in which case you can hear a clicking noise of variable length every time you press a key. Although the automatic telephone system of the calling card provider "talks" to you it does not understand natural language but only "touch tones". All input is done using the dial pad of your telephone in order for the telephone to generate these "touch tones". These "touch tones" are standardized internationally and are also called DTMF (dial tone multi frequency).

If you want to use your calling card in a location (hotel, hospital, etc.) where you cannot find a "touch tone" telephone you should consider buying a DTMF-sender. This little device is about as big as a key chain holder, and includes a "touch tone" generator and a battery. It is usually used to listen to the messages on your answering machine when you are away. Sometimes when you buy an answering machine a device like that is already included. You can also buy one separately in any electronic or telephone store. Prices range from about € 5 to € 15.

What does the notice "120/60" mean?

If your card says "120/60" it means that you are charged 120 seconds (2 minutes) for the first minute (this is called "ground tax") and for every following minute at 60 second-intervals.

What does "CLI" stand for?

CLI = call line identification. The calling card provider's computer automatically recognizes you from the phone number you are calling from. It determines that you have called from that phone before and already authenticated yourself with the PIN. Therefore you will not have to re-enter your PIN. You save time. You should avoid sending the PIN again since otherwise the telephone system would interpret that as your desired number. CLI is not supported by every calling card.

What does "call through" mean?

Call through is the opposite of "call back". Contrary to call back, call through means that you get immediately connected to the destination number without being called back by the provider. It is the way you are used to calling without a calling card.

What does "Best-City" mean?

There are various payment plans offered by German net providers which give you the chance to use your calling card to best advantage with a cellphone. "Tellow" cards offer this feature, for example, calling it "Best City". Don't be confused by the term, if you use Tellow's Frankfurt access number with a cellphone you can then call ANYWHERE in Germany at land-line rates + the "best city"charge. This is, to the best of our knowledge, as low as 15 Pf a minute at weekends.
